OPTIMAL CORD CLAMPING

Why it is crucial to advocate for delayed cord clamping?? As I learnt yesterday, it's much better to say OPTIMAL cord clamping. The wording for this is much more positive around - waiting for white - and it's beneficial for our babies! Read on to find out why...
• Remember to wait for white (you can find more information on the campaign @ the waitforwhite website)
• We know that EARLY cord clamping can mean baby misses out on a third of their blood (which should to be allowed to travel from the placenta to baby).
• We know that unborn babies get their oxygen from the placenta. Allowing the natural process of the blood to transfer over means baby can learn to breath in its own time. Adjusting to the outside world at the babies pace.
• For special rare circumstances where baby takes a little longer to take their first breath it’s *MOST IMPORTANT* that the baby and placenta are still connected during any needed resuscitation. Allowing the vital oxygen from placenta to help baby. There have been instances during these special circumstances this has saved the babies life. All because when the mother refused to allow premature cord clamping (when the midwife present wanted to cut immediately the mother said no after doing her researching and learning what's best for baby.) Later a specialist midwife reviewed this birth where told the mother “By refusing premature cord clamping you SAVED YOUR BABIES LIFE and it is most important that baby and placenta stay connected.” The same midwife also said “Keeping the cord intact was the MOST IMPORTANT part of the babies resus.”
• This is crucial information many of us do not know about. Which is why I fully believe it’s important for us to connect with those who can educate us for birth and we can then state our birth preferences and advocate for ourselves and our babies.

• Let’s work together to approach birth feeling fully informed, confident & educated. Not frightened, scared and in the dark about what is best for us and babies.
I have a private Facebook group for my birthing clients where I share and discuss all things birth and HypnoBirthing, bio mechanics for birth to prepare and support birthing parents on your journeys. If you would love to be a part of my community please drop me a message.
If you’re pregnant I wish you all the best on your journey.
