Why they call me the skincare Queen.

Why I’m so passionate about skincare & recommending good products (that work)!

As most of you know I’ve always loved helping women feel beautiful and that started out through my career in makeup. At the time it just felt natural for me. Aside from that growing up my mum would always tell me to moisturise my skin, she would encourage this a lot and stress how important is is to look after it! Plus in my family we do generally have dry skin. So I always loved cosmetics, trying new ones, fancy packaging, different scents and smells and the excitement of treating myself to a knew product.

Though my skin was always generally good, I didn’t start to have problems till my mid 20’s. I loved all beauty products and heard about the benefits of essential oils - With no scientific evidence to back this up -  I decided to make a homemade facial oil. Which smelled beautiful. Looking back I’m grateful for the mistake I made. My super sensitive / reactive skin would be irritant at nearly everything I used. So I did more research.

This time I did real research… evidence based, a site which also helped me is Paula’s choice dictionary. I realised that a lot of skincare ingredients are not beneficial for the skin yet are still put into products. This makes me so angry, because I feel like we all just want to look good and not everyone has a huge budget and we purchase with wool pulled over our eyes. I honestly think it should be illegal to add ingredients that are not needed.

A huge no no is - denatured alcohol - maybe something you’ve heard me talk about before. I despise this being in skincare. It’s usually added in to “increase the longevity/shelf life of a product.” YET gives an instant glow, while striping natural protective layer of your skin. So everyday you add the let’s say a serum thinking it’s giving you a glow (feeling dry from the day before) wanting to fix the problem caused by the product itself. [Literally writing this SMH].

Not only that did you know that scents/parfum/fragrance are all irritating to the skin too. Side note - your skin is the largest organ of your body. Your face is already exposed to so much; pollution, years of UVA, UVB, Blue light, alcohol, diet, a list of things ageing and damaging to your skin.

Something I learned from doing my beauty therapy training at collage is that mineral oils are added to many products. The reason they’re added is to dilute/yield products so they can bulk hundreds of it to make more profit. It’s hard to pinpoint them in an ingredient list as they can be called so many different things. When these are in skincare they are usually really greasy and become a waterproof layer, both clogging pores being comedogenic and counter-acting the helpful ingredients which are in the products as they’re unable to penetrate the dermis. So in my eyes the product is completely pointless.

Most companies have a USP (unique selling point). Be mindful of that so that you can become aware of why you want to buy form such company.

For example if it’s..

“We don’t test on animals”. Great! I’m glad you have great morals, however in the UK it is completely illegal for any company to test on animals.

Or

“We only use natural ingredients.” This can he misleading as not all natural ingredients are good for your skin. Tea tree is something I really do not recommend. It’s harsh on the skin, if you use it due to having acne prone skin you need to be careful. There are a lot of non natural ingredients specifically added for beneficial reasons to help a certain problem while being safe for your skin.

The company I use is nuskin, all of their products are - Results driven backed by science - and align with their motto “All of the good and none of the bad.” I’ve personally vetted nearly all of the products and amazed but the ingredient, each product specifically formulated to safely fix a problem not adding any more stress or damage to your skin while being super substantial. My personal skin glow up from having the correct routine for my skin type through using these products has been amazing, I’ve gone from a mixed combination skin of blemishes everywhere, feeling dry and oily while being sore to clear younger looking glowy skin that feels healthy. I still break out but I have my routine to manage my skin. You cannot change your skin type. This is why I choose to be a brand representative for nuskin and I use my knowledge and beauty background on skincare cosmetics and these specific products to help friends and clients manage their skin too!

Call me shallow vein or insecure, it doesn’t matter but a I remember a couple of years ago when I was feeling really down about my skin. I was so upset daily it has a big impact on my confidence and how I was. I was crying emailing dermatologists in Manchester to book an expensive appointment. But lucky I started my nu-skincare journey and never looked back!

If you have any specific skin concerns you would like help with please message me directly with exactly what they are and what your current routine is if you have one. (Do not be embarrassed if you don’t have a routine right now, I’m here to help not judge!)

If right now you’re a little nervous to rest out, can download the Vera skincare app - pop in my affiliate ID UK3594287 and give yourself a full skin analysis through photos and a tone of questions to narrow down your specific skin type / routine that’s best for you.
